Report: Okposo Looks for Redemption

Dec. 23, 2007:
Kyle Okposo will return to the U.S. team for another chance
at gold. A better showing than last year will be his goal as Okposo will
most likely join the Islanders organization following the tournament. He
will be joined by fellow Islanders prospect Rhett Rakhshani as the Americans
look to dethrone Team Canada. |

The Buy Out |

Charles Wang finally buckled under the pressure and agreed to buy out
Alexei Yashin. The Islanders will pay Yashin $17.63 mill over the course
of the next 8 years, until 2015, at an average salary cap hit of $2.2
million a year. The team also gains $5.4 million off the cap. The
buyout becomes easily the largest in NHL history. With Wang admitting his
mistake, this should serve as proof positive that signing long term deals
is detrimental to any franchise. |
